Pastor Brian Westgate was installed by Bishop Jamison Hardy as pastor of The English Evangelical Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer of Oakmont and Verona on The Tenth Sunday after Trinity, July 31, 2016. Two of his predecessors at Redeemer were in attendance: Bishop David Stechholz, who served here 1978-1988 (the lector for the service), and Rev'd. Dr. Jonathan C. Naumann, who served here 2003-2016. The preacher was Rev'd. Dr. Douglas H. Spittel of First Trinity Pittsburgh, who had served as the vacancy pastor since Pastor Naumann accepted the call to serve as an LCMS missionary to Latin America.
A product of Wisconsin Synod schools and a graduate of Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Pastor Westgate was ordained on Exaudi Sunday, June 5, 2011, by Rev'd. Mark P. Braden at Zion Detroit, and installed the following Sunday, Pentecost 2016, by Pastor (now Bishop) Jamison Hardy as pastor at Faith Lutheran Church near Butler, PA. He served there five years before coming to Redeemer.
Pastor Westgate and his wife Bethanie have two young children. He is a student of The Church's historic liturgy and hymnody, and is a trained Lutheran organist. He serves on two committees of the English District of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod: the Disaster Relief & Human Care committee (which he chairs) and the Worship Committee. He recently finished a term as president of and English District representative on The Board of Directors of Pittsburgh Area Lutheran Ministries.
