Becoming a Member of
Redeemer
Just as each of
us has one body with many members, and these members do not all
have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one
body, and each member belongs to all the others.
(Romans 12:4-5)
We are pleased to have people
visiting our worship services and join in our ministry
activities. We consider it a joy to welcome guests in our midst.
We believe church membership is important. Jesus said,
"Whosoever therefore shall confess Me before men, I will
confess before My Father who is in heaven" (Matthew 10:32).
We encourage those without a church home to seek membership in
Christ's Kingdom of Grace. People become members of our
congregation in the following ways:
Catechism Instruction:
(for youth in the 7th, 8th, or 9th grades . . . a two-year
program of Christian teaching and application.)
Letter of Transfer: (for fellow Lutherans of sister LCMS congregations), upon
profession of faith and thus being received in a worship service.
We do, though, encourage all Lutherans to take the Adult
Membership Class as a healthy refresher.
Adult Membership
Class: A 10-week course in basic Christian teaching, based on the Holy
Bible. This is an instructional course for adults with a
non-Lutheran background seeking membership in Redeemer
Congregation. Upon completion of the course and their profession
of faith, adults are confirmed in the faith of the Lutheran
Church-Missouri Synod and received as communicant members. Since
proper reception of the Lord's Supper according to Christ's
institution (see 1 Corinthians 11:22ff), is so very important, we
ask all those seeking membership to have completed a course in
Luther's Small Catechism (as a youth or as an adult) before they
join with us at the altar in partaking of Christ's body and
blood.
For more information about Adult
Membership Classes and becoming a member of Redeemer, please ask
to speak with the pastor or one of the deacons.
